Why we made these biodegradable sponges and why swap

Did you know when you wash your dishes, microplastics come off your yellow sponge?

Normal sponges are made from polyester and nylon which are both plastics and not recyclable at their end of life. Small pieces fall off on almost every wash, washing straight down our drains and into our water systems. These micro-plastics are ending up in our oceans and in our water systems, being digested by marine life as well as by our friends and family. Let's put a stop to this madness.

These natural sponges are made from cellulose, are plastic free and are 100% biodegradable. Plus, they will last longer than your normal plastic kitchen sponges. So it's a win win for you and the environment.

Sponge care and end of life

Treat the sponge as any normal sponge. No special care is needed.

When the sponge is no longer useful in cleaning your dishes, throw the sponge at your best friends head. As long as the sponge lands on a patch of grass, it will biodegrade. If you want to speed up the breaking down of the sponge, simply bury it underground or put it in your home compost. If your council collects food waste for composting, you can also put the sponge in the food waste bin.

Maker Story

My name is Lixiang, I am 45 years old, I have been working with the company for 3 years.  I was born in Jiaxing Zhejiang Province. l have a cute daughter, I have been in cellulose sponge business for more than 20 years. I hope you enjoy the quality of my work and the sponges I made. And did you know all of the production scraps of the sponges can be recycled into new sponges?

Our factory is based in the Yancheng City, Jiangsu province in China.

The minimum wage in the province is 1830RMB per month. The minimum salary paid is around 2,100RMB per month.

We do not use plastics in production, but use preservatives and humectants at the end of processing. These chemical components will enter our sewage treatment pool for proper treatment and discharge.

The sponges are shipped via sea freight to minimise the carbon footprint of each product. We offset our carbon emissions and more by planting a tree for every item we sell.

The product does not have any animal derivatives. It is 100% Vegan and plastic-free.
