Why we made this dish soap block and why switch?

Among the tonnes of cleaning products we pour down the drain each year are toxic substances that are not processed adequately by sewage treatment plants or septic systems. Although Fairy and many other washing detergents claims to be biodegradable and complies with EU guidelines in this regard, it can hardly be considered good for the environment. For a detergent to be considered biodegradable by the EU, it need only break down by 66 per cent within 28 days. During those 28 days, residues from detergents and surfactants can build up and cause significant, long-lasting damage to humans, animals and the environment.

According to Greenpeace, Fairy liquid may also contain hormone-disrupting artificial musks, which are potential carcinogens and reproductive toxins both in people and wildlife- again, we don’t know for sure because P&G will not answer the simple question: does it or doesn’t it? In the absence of data, the precautionary principle applies- assume that it does.

Over 80% of many washing up liquids is water, we are using shipping resources to ship water around the world. Which creates much CO2 in transportation. This is unnecessary when we can simply make a soap block that is fully biodegradable and is long lasting.

The dish washing soap block is made with natural ingredients and is super compact. Which means that it will last over 2 months and is an excellent eco alternative to normal washing up soap.

How do I use the dish washing soap block?

Make sure to remove excess grease and food then wet your scourer or sponge and rub the dish soap block until the sponge has good amount of the soap block evenly. Repeat this process as the soap runs out on the scourer or sponge.

After all the dirt is gone, simply rinse your dishes under water to get rid of the excess soap.
