Why we made this round scourer and why swap?

Did you know that kitchen sponges and scourers are made from plastic? They are not recyclable so will go straight to landfill. Even when you use them, they shed off tiny amounts of microplastics which becomes toxic to us and our environment. 

So we wanted to create a great plastic-free alternative to plastic sponges and scourers. It's made from totally natural ingredients; coconut coir and steel wire. So at the end of life this is 100% biodegradable and will not produce micro-plastics.

Round scourer care & end of life

When the coconut dish scrubber is no longer scrubbing your dirty dishes well, you can use it as a soap dish to put the soap block on or use it for general cleaning around the house! To dispose, you can cut the bristles off the metal wire. These bristles are 100% biodegradable and can be added to your food waste or compost. Then you can recycle the wire as normal in your metal recycling.

Hello! I’m Dharshana, I’m 58 years old. I decided to set up a system to use the waste from coconut harvesting and turn the waste coir into useful environmentally friendly products. I wanted to help uplift poverty in our village located in Gampaha, Sri Lanka.

Before I started this operation most of the villagers got caught in loan traps, lent by Mirco Financing groups. Thanks to people buying eco-friendly products from us, we have been able to offer jobs to lift hundreds of people out of poverty.

Most of the makers when they began working here, they only had a push bicycle due to financial difficulties. Now thanks to working with us they have been able to own their own vehicles like Tok Tuks and motorcycles. So we feel very grateful for people buying environmentally friendly good products from us. It really helps with improving the living standards of the villagers here.

Our production facility is based in Gampaha, Sri Lanka.

The artisans are paid 4 times the minimum wage in Sri Lanka. This comes to an average of 40,000 Rupees.

There are flexible working hours for employees, who get paid per piece completed. The villagers value this system allowing them to be more flexible with other family and social responsibilities.

The round scourers are shipped via sea freight to minimise the carbon footprint of each product. We offset our carbon emissions and more by planting a tree for every item we sell.

The product does not have any animal derivatives and no unnatural substances were used. No plastic or chemicals used. 100% Vegan and plastic-free.
